Women's Soccer Announces Team Awards
(Canton, N.Y.)- The women's soccer team announced their 2009 team awards at the athletic department's year-end picnic on May 9.
Junior midfielder Niki Perkins (Potsdam, N.Y.) was the team's Most Valuable Player. Perkins, the Sunrise Conference Offensive Player of the Year and an all-conference selection, netted a team-leading 25 goals and had eight assists for 58 points. She generated 65 shots in 16 games.
The Most Valuable Offensive Player was sophomore forward Justin Monahan (Ellington, Conn.). Monahan, an all-conferenc pick, had 19 goals and a team-high 24 assists for 62 points and she also led the team in shots with 76 while starting all 19 games.
The Most Valuable Defensive Player was freshman sweeper Teresa Morley (Ogdensburg, N.Y.). Morley had one assist in 18 games.
The Coaches Awards went to freshman fullback Emily Fuller (Edwards, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Cierra Wells (Madrid, N.Y.). Fuller started all 19 games at outside fullback and had three assists. She and Morley led a defense that held opponents to 1.1 goals per game and posted nine shutouts. Wells also started all 19 games and scored six goals with four assists for 16 points.
