Roos Score Four In Second Half To Be Machias

(Canton, N.Y.)- SUNY Canton erupted for four second-half goals to beat the University of Maine at Machias in a Sunrise Conference women's soccer game on Sunday in Canton. The Roos won the Sunrise Conference regular season title for the second year in a row and secured the top seed in the conference tournament in two weeks. SUNY Canton is now 13-0-1 in league play and 14-2-1 overall and will host No. 23 Houghton College on Wednesday in their final regular season game.
The Roos scored three goals in the first eight minutes of the second half to erase a 2-1 halftime deficit. Niki Perkins (Potsdam, N.Y.) scored two of those goals and Ashley Winfield (Fort Plain, N.Y.) netted the third. Aimee Bookmiller (Bliss, N.Y.) completed the scoring with a goal in the 61st minute.
The Clippers (9-4, 9-8) jumped ahead 1-0 in the 27th minute when Sara Rushforth scored unassisted. Justine Monahan (Ellington, Conn.) tied the game 10 minutes later on a penalty kick. Erin O'Connor gave Machias the narrow halftime lead when she scored with just six seconds left in the opening half.
Perkins tied the game in the 49th minute and then put the Roos ahead for good in the 51st minute. Winfield's goal came in the 53rd minute.
Aubrey Parrish (Greene, N.Y.) recorded six saves for the Roos.
Stephanie Wunderley had 16 saves for the Clippers.
