Roos Shut Down Machias 4-0

(Scarborough, Maine)-The top-seeded SUNY Canton women's soccer team blanked No. 4 University of Maine at Machias 4-0 Saturday in the semifinals of the 2008 Sunrise Conference Soccer Championships at Scarborough High School in Scarborough, Maine. The Roos advance to Sunday's championship game for the second year in a row against the winner of No. 2 University of Maine at Fort Kent and No. 3 University of Maine at Presque Isle who play at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The Roos (14-4-2) dominated the opening first 10 minutes generating several good scoring chances that were blocked by Clippers goalie Stephanie Wunderley. For the game the Roos out shot the Clippers 28-12.
SUNY Canton finally broke through with an own goal in the 29th minute that was deflected in by Machias. Justine Monahan (Ellington, Conn.) made it 2-0 Roos at halftime when she scored off a rebound after Wunderley made an initial kick save on a through ball in the 37th minute. Ashley Winfield (Fort Plain, N.Y.) then scored in the 52nd minute from Monahan and Niki Perkins (Potsdam, N.Y.) capped off the scoring in the 58th minute off an assist from Vanessa Badlam (Canton, N.Y.).
Aubrey Parrish (Greene, N.Y.) recorded the shutout with four saves while Wunderley finished with 15 for the Clippers who end their season at 9-10.
