(Portland, Maine)-The top-seeded SUNY Canton women's soccer team was upset by second-seeded University of Maine at Fort Kent 3-1 in the championship game of the Sunrise Conference tournament at Memorial Stadium in Portland, Maine. The Roos end their season at 14-4-1 while the Bengals improved to 17-3 and will now advance to the NAIA national tournament starting on November 22.

Freshman Whitney Sinclair scored all three goals for the Bengals. The Bengals first goal came just 14:10 into the game. Stephanie Schofield served a direct kick from 40 yards out that was banged in by Sinclair for a 1-0 lead.

The Roos knotted the score at 1-1 early in the second half. At the 49:07 mark Justine Monahan (Ellington, Conn.) sent a nice through ball to Niki Perkins (Potsdam, N.Y.) who was able to slide a shot past Bengals goalie Kayla Daigle.

A pair of defensive miscues than hurt the Roos later in the second half. At the 68:19 mark the Bengals sent in a cross from the left wing that SUNY Canton could not clear. Sinclair pounced on the loose ball for her second goal. Brianne McGary assisted on the goal. One minute later a miscommunication by the Roos defense left the ball free in front of the net and Sinclair knocked in her third goal for the final score.

Aubrey Parrish (Greene, N.Y.) finished with six saves for the Roos. Daigle had seven saves for the Bengals.
