(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women's soccer team kicked off their season Friday night with a 2-0 loss to SUNY Potsdam in Canton.
The Bears (1-0) shut out the Roos (0-1) for the second straight year as they generated 23 shots while holding SUNY Canton to just two attempts.
Sophomore Aubrey Parrish (Greene, N.Y.) made her first career start in goal for SUNY Canton and stopped 12 shots.
SUNY Potsdam opened up the scoring just 1:54 into the first half when Lacey Malbeuf took a shot from the right wing that was deflected by Parrish right to Jen Rutan who knocked the loose ball in the back of the net.
The Bears second goal came in the 37th minute when Malbeuf took a pass from Desi Webster on the right wing and sent a low shot past Parrish into the left corner of the net.
Sarah Casey had two saves while playing 80 minutes in goal for the Bears and Molly Flynn wasn't called on to make a save in the final 10 minutes.
