Roos Nip Machias 2-1
10/24/09
( Machias, Maine)- The SUNY Canton women's soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the University of Maine at Machias 2-1 in a weather shortened game Saturday in Maine. With the win the Roos improved to 5-4 in the Sunrise Conference and 6-8 overall.
The game on Saturday was called in the 70th minute by officials due to heavy rain that had come down starting on Friday and into Saturday which made the field unplayable and unsafe. The game is considered an official game by reaching the 70 minute mark and the score and all statistics will count.
The nasty weather forced the cancellation of the men's game between the two schools which was to follow the women's game. It has not yet been determined if that game will need to be made up based on conference standings and the impact on seedings for the upcoming conference championships in November.
Angie Waryasz (Lowville, N.Y.) and Renee Taylor (Bronx, N.Y.) each scored for the Roos on Saturday who entered the weekend dropping their last three contests, two in conference play. The win leaves the Roos in third place in the conference, a game up on the Clippers and one back of the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
The top four teams in the conference qualify for the conference championshps.
