Roos Drop Season Opener to Potsdam 4-0

(Potsdam, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women's soccer team was shut out 4-0 by SUNY Potsdam Tuesday night in their season opener in Potsdam.
Freshman Ashley Knox (Binghamton, N.Y.), a Chenango Forks graduate, had an impressive debut in goal for the Roos (0-1) making 12 saves, including two tough stops in the first half that kept the score 0-0 at the break.
The Bears (1-0) finally broke through in the 47th minute when Kathleen Frear scored what turned out to be the game-winner from Liz Bazzano. Dedra Palmer made it 2-0 Potsdam two minutes later when she knocked in a shot from Heather Johnson. The Bears pumped in two more goals in the final 22 minutes for the final margin. Courtney Poirer scored in the 69th minute and Palmer added her second goal with 18 minutes left.
Potsdam used three goaltenders to stymie the Roos. Sarah Casey started and had one save in 59 minutes of play and Lisa Bates and Nicole Volpi were not credited with any saves while splitting the remainder of the time in goal.
