9/22/09
(Canton, N.Y.)- Freshman Kirsten Morley (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) of the SUNY Canton women's soccer team capped off a tremendous week and made history after being named the NAIA Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. This marks the first time a SUNY Canton athlete has received such an honor since joining the NAIA in 2007.
Morley, an Ogdensburg Free Academy graduate, generated 15 points in her last four games including back-to-back hat tricks guiding the Roos to a 2-1 week.
Morley scored three goals and set up another in a 6-1 win over Morrisville State College. She then pumped in three more goals, including the game-winner in a 4-3 double overtime win over Vermont Technical College. She also scored once in an 8-2 win over Fisher College giving her seven goals on the week.
Morley leads the Roos in scoring (15 points) and shots (19) and was also named co-Offensive Player of the Week in the Sunrise Conference. She currently ranks 31st in the NAIA in goals per game (1.1) and 26th in game-winning goals per game (0.33).
