(Canton, N.Y.)- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
announced the brackets and schedules for the 2007 Women's Volleyball
National Championship on Monday. SUNY Canton has been placed in Pool
A and will play top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Fresno Pacific University
(Calif.) at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28 in the first day of the round
robin pool play. Also on Wednesday, SUNY Canton will play No. 10 Northwestern
College (Iowa) at 5:45 p.m. The Roos final match of the pool play will
be against Westminster College (Utah) in day two on Thursday, Nov. 29
at 11:15 a.m.
20 teams qualified for this year's tournament, hosted by Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. The teams are placed in five pools and the top two teams from each pool will advance to the ten-team, single elimination bracket. First round and quarterfinal matches will be played on Friday, Nov. 30 and the semifinals and championship matches are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1. The Roos match against Northwestern will be at Stephens College, down the road from Columbia.
SUNY Canton, led by first-year head coach Mary Helak, is making their first appearance in the national tournament after capturing the Sunrise Conference and Region X championships. SUNY Canton is currently 16-7 and have won six consecutive matches.
Fresno Pacific is the 2006 runner-up and have been ranked No. 1 in every NAIA poll this season. The Sunbirds are 31-1 and won the Region II championship.
Westminster, in Salt Lake City, Utah, is 24-10 and ranked 22nd. The Griffins received an at-large bid after finishing second at the Region I tournament
