Jenn Stevenson '88
Jennifer Stevenson's interest in real estate began when she took a class in the subject while earning an associate degree in Accounting at SUNY Canton.
After graduation she earned her real estate broker's license and began working for a national agency. Ten years later, she struck out on her own and opened Blue Heron Realty, a transition she said was successful in large part due to her education at SUNY Canton.
"It was one of the best experiences to prepare me to become a real estate broker-owner of my own company," she said, noting the personal attention and in-depth instruction she received from her professors. "You weren't just a number or a seat; you were a person, and that made all the difference."
“You weren't just a number. You weren't a seat. You were a person, and that made all the difference. It was one of the best experiences to prepare me to become a broker/owner of my own company."
In addition to being a successful small business owner, Stevenson generously donates her time and talents to a wide range of civic and community organizations. She is an Ogdensburg city councilor and serves on the St. Lawrence Valley SPCA Board of Directors. She is also a member of the National Association of Realtors Housing Opportunity Committee, which aims to improve rental and home ownership options for low-income individuals and families.
She also believes in giving back to SUNY Canton so other students have the chance to enjoy the same quality educational experience she had.
"Colleges can't be funded by tuition alone," she said. "So we need to give back to an organization that has allowed us to fulfill our dreams."
