Interns in Action

Alicia Abbey

I'm currently interning with the General Manger at Ashley Furniture Homestore and have been assisting him and being involved with the management of the store. I've been assigned to track and deliver merchandise and inventory to the store for customer pick-up's and as well as furniture for our showroom floor. I also assist with making recommendations on the following: 1.) Using customer feedback and competitive shopping to assist in the introduction date, release date and retire dates of new furniture; 2.) managing HomeStore to meet sales goals, as well as develop individual and store sales goals; 3.) maintain store records and documentation, including sales data; accounts payable and receivable information; petty cash accounts; employee performance, timekeeping, and HR records.  While in my internship, I have attained the ability to maintain to influence people in positive ways for mutual benefit to employees, delegate authority to others, and have effective time management, organizational skills, and problem solving skills.  I hope to maintain and grow these skills and abilities so I can be well-prepared for my future positions with management.

Lindsey Bishop

During my internship I have been learning and experiencing new things that are involved with management. I have been introduced to payroll, filing paperwork for both clients and personnel, auditing of client files, weekly paperwork needed for payroll, distributing employee paychecks, updating a tracking system that contains information about clients, updating tracking system for employee information, and distributing memos. All of these things are very important in a business setting because it is a businesses way of life. During my internship, I have acquired more responsibility because I have learned how things operate. I feel that all of my experiences so far during my internship will prepare me for my future endeavors with management.
