The Legal Studies program also incorporates courses that expose students to the business aspects of the practice of law.

Instructors in this program have a wide variety real world experience including attorneys who are practicing, or have practiced law. This allows students to learn from the experiences of professionals from governmental agencies and from the private sector.

The Legal Studies degree is one of SUNY Canton's signature online programs. Students don't have to travel to take an online course, eliminating geographic barriers. Because internet courses don't have set classroom schedules, students can participate at any hour and from anywhere, even from your job.

Students work to produce well-written, well-researched documents applying client’s facts to the law. Students learn this process hands-on with case examples and studies.

The U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics projects paralegal positions to grow faster than average, or about 27 percent, for all occupations through 2014. Paralegals rank 27 out of the top 50 career fields for job prospects. There are a number of openings for paralegals in federal, corporate, and strictly legal settings.

Colonel Carl J. Disalvatore Carl Disalvatore

Small logo Colonel Carl J. Disalvatore attended The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. graduating with a B.S. in Business Administration in 1975. He received his J.D. from the University of Miami Law School and was admitted into the Florida Bar. He also received a Master of Arts degree in Military Studies in 2004. While serving in the military, Col. Disalvatore was also a Legal Assistance Officer, Trial Counsel, and Chief of Claims. He has tried cases and boards internationally and has a military teaching background. He’s worked with the Army ROTC battalions at Syracuse University and Utica College, as well as at the Fort Drum Legal Office. His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leave clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leave clusters, Army Achievement Medal with oak leave cluster. He is a graduate of the Air War College and U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
