Meet the Faculty
This program is lead by Assistant Professor Michael Newtown
and was created by Professor Arthur Hurlbut.
Dr. Hurlbut is the former Dean of the Canino School of Engineering Technology and a 1965 SUNY Canton Graduate. He was recently decorated with the E.K. Campbell Award of Merit from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Dr. Hurlbut has been a consulting engineer for Northern New York businesses and organizations and has been called upon to solve complicated heating and engineering problems. He was a member of the Advisory and Design Committee for the Canton Pavilion from 1996 to 1998 where he designed and oversaw the installation of the arena's dehumidifiers. He is also an aviation and motorcycle enthusiast.
Mike Newtown graduated from SUNY Canton in 1984 from the Mechanical Engineering Technology program and earned his bachelors from Rochester Institute of Technology. He has have worked for PEKO Precision, Inc. in Rochester. His interest in engineering technology has changed from manufacturing to energy related issues. He has taught courses for Engineering Science, HVAC, Mechanical, Heating and Plumbing, among others for the past eight years. He has a professional engineering license and is very well versed in designing, understanding and building energy systems. Mr. Newtown is currently pursuing his doctorate degree. He served in the U.S. Army for five years and is qualified to be a paratrooper.
