Green Campus Committee
The Green Campus Committee is chaired by Asst. Prof. Matt Burnett and has several members, evenly divided between faculty and students. Prof. Burnett also serves on Sustainability Task Force. The following is based on information he provided.
- Registered and implemented participation in Recyclemania...benchmark class. Several students and faculty on board with this, spearheaded by Christa Kelson
- Organized a "Carpool Wednesday" for which we received TV and newspaper exposure, plus lots of attention from students and faculty (free donuts and coffee on the entry ramp if you had more than one person)
- We had Casella come to explain about Single Stream sorting and how the whole organization works. We have an open invitation for students to accompany them on a pickup
- Christa and I have met with Mike McCormick regarding the move towards Single Stream Sorting and recycle containers on campus. We have extensively researched and so far decided that cross campus recycling containers must happen in coordination with the institution (not temporary independent efforts). But there is a lot of individual waste not being effectively recycled the way things are right now.
