SUNY Canton seeks a dynamic, creative, and organized individual to serve as the Special Events Coordinator. The Special Events Coordinator is responsible for coordinating a wide variety of special events for internal (faculty/staff) and external parties, including but not limited to, conferences, meetings, seminars, ceremonies, receptions, ensuring that all needs are met with regard to Food Service, Information Services, University Police, Maintenance, to achieve a successful event. The Coordinator is specifically responsible for the planning, management, and execution of Commencement, Employee Recognition Day, Opening Convocation, groundbreakings, and grand openings, as well as the digital sign display. The Coordinator will also provide support to various events through their committee assignments. The Coordinator needs to be aware of matters such as safety, aesthetic, environmental issues, and diversity and cultural practices. Professionalism is required at all times both on and off campus, as well as having qualities of being personable, and flexible with a strong work ethic. The position will require some work outside the normal M-F 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. schedule.


A minimum of three years of relevant, demonstrated experience is required. The successful candidate must have strong computer skills and be able to use Word, Excel, and Outlook. Adobe Photoshop and EMS calendar is a preferred skill; training will be offered.

Prior to a final offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification, and criminal background check.
