DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

SUNY Canton seeks an Assistant Professor, other ranks considered, in the area of Game Design and Development. Candidates should have expertise in the varying disciplines of interactive design or game design/development with a particular focus on game programming. Software experience may include Unity, Unreal Engine, or comparable development software, with programming proficiency in C#, Java, C++, Python or another prevalent programming language. We are interested in candidates with real-world experience in commercial game development who are as passionate about teaching as they are about emerging trends in the game industry. The successful candidate will teach in our popular Game Design and Development program and will adopt a pedagogical approach that includes the whole-student. The faculty member is encouraged to be an innovator within her/his discipline. There is an expectation to perform applied scholarly activities on technological problems as related to the profession and society. The faculty is also expected to participate in undergraduate instruction in the areas of technical competence; in faculty governance; in departmental, university, professional, and public service; and with an industry leader advisory board.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
Master degree in a field related to game design and development.

Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. or MFA in related fields to game design, graphic media or programming. Candidates should have worked, in multiple capacities, on a video or board game that was commercially released. Candidates must be able to demonstrate proficiency in a programming language with utility for game development (Markup languages would not qualify), University-level teaching experience is desirable. Experience teaching and developing online coursework is desirable.
