SUNY Canton Admissions Counselor Excels in Ironman Competition
CANTON – SUNY Canton Admissions Counselor Bryan Parker had an extraordinary debut as an Ironman tri-athlete, finishing third in his age group and 52nd overall in the Ford Lake Placid Ironman event on Sunday.
Overcoming torrential downpours and painful blisters, the Canton native finished the race in an amazing time of 10 hours 0 minutes 57 seconds. The race is a grueling 2.4 mile swim, 112-mile bike, and then a marathon (26.2 mile run.) More than 2,300 people competed in the race.
Despite a flat tire in the biking portion of the event that delayed him for more than 12 minutes, Parker placed just 40 seconds behind the winner in his 18-24 year-old age group and 10 seconds behind the second place finisher in the group. Had his tire not gone flat, he would have undoubtedly finished first in his age group and in the top 25 overall.
Parker is a 2002 graduate of Hugh C. Williams High School of Canton. He previously finished first in his division and third overall at the Tupper Lake Tinman event on June 30, an event that is half the distance of the Ironman.
