SUNY Canton Offers Security Guard Training Options

The SUNY Canton Center for Lifelong Learning will be offering classes for security guards and for aspiring security guards.

The college will be offering a16-hour on-the-job training course for security guards, which comes in addition to the pre-assignment course and the eight-hour in-service training course. All courses are approved by the Office of Public Safety and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and are mandated by the New York State Security Guard Act of 1992. University Police Deputy Chief Steven L. Livernois will be leading the classes.

An eight-hour pre-assignment training course will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 in SUNY Canton Payson Hall Room 111. The course costs $85 and all class materials are included.

An eight-hour annual in-service training course will also be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3 in SUNY Canton Payson Hall Room 111. The course costs $85 and all class materials are included.

Sixteen-hour on-the-job training courses will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 and 12, in SUNY Canton Payson Hall Room 111. The course costs $150 and all class materials are included. The 16-hour course must be completed within 90 days of initial employment.
