Tax Preparation Assistance Available Through April 14 at SUNY Canton
Students from the College work with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to increase their tax preparation skills and teach community members how to correctly file their own personal taxes in the future. The Internal Revenue Service sponsors the VITA program. Although this service is free to students, and open to the public, the qualifying income bracket for participants is a gross income below $49,000, according to the IRS.
Required items include Social Security cards, photo identification, all W-2’s and any other income documents, unemployment compensation (Form 1099G), interest or dividend income (form 1099INT and 1099DIV), and last year’s NY State and Federal Tax Returns.
Sessions are available from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Feb. 10 until April 1 (excluding the week of March 10) in Wicks Hall Room 031. Appointments are required for this service.
