The Health Center, located on the first floor of the Richard W. Miller Campus Center, achieved the accreditation by providing a safe work environment and the highest quality of care to its patients.
Accreditation in this arena is completely voluntary, and not mandated or stipulated by any governing agency. The Health Center staff filed for the accreditation on their own in order to further demonstrate their effectiveness.
“Our patients deserve the best,” said Patricia A. Todd, director of health services at the College. “We sought the accreditation from an independent, not for profit organization to help us show everyone that we strive for and provide the highest level of care possible.”
Organizations seeking accreditation by the AAAHC undergo an extensive self-assessment and on-site survey by the Accreditation Association’s expert surveyors, including volunteer physicians, nurses, and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory healthcare. The survey is consultative and educational; presenting ways to help and organization improve its care and services. “Going through the process challenged us to find better ways to serve our patients,” Todd said.
The Health Center is a resource for students on campus, providing education on healthy lifestyle habits in addition to offering in-clinic health services. Health Center staff recently began converting to an electronic system for maintaining medical records, allowing them to reduce paper waste and increase efficiency, according to Todd.
The Davis Center has six staff members and sees more than 4,000 visits annually. The main phone number is (315) 386-7333 and students can ask questions anytime by emailing email@example.com.
AAAHC accreditation is specifically for organizations that provide diagnostic or medical care on an outpatient basis- where an overnight stay would not be required. Among the types of health care organizations that can seek AAAHC are ambulatory and office-based surgery centers, single and multi-specialty group practices, college health centers, dental group practices, community health centers, occupational health centers, and managed care organizations.
