Fireworks Wednesday at SUNY Canton’s Fall Fest

The SUNY Canton College Activities Board has sponsored a fireworks display as part of the College’s Fall Festival, Wednesday, Sept. 15.

The first fireworks will launch at 9 p.m. from the field behind SUNY Canton’s Smith Residence Hall.

The Kangaroos men's soccer team will take on the SUNY Potsdam Bears at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The College is holding a "pack the stands" event at the game as part of Fall Fest.

Other events during the student-orchestrated festivities include:

  • A construction celebration of the College’s Grasse River Housing Suites will be held at 3 p.m. across the street from the construction site on Cornell Drive.
  • Students from each residence will be competing in a raft race for their choice of rooms in the new 305-bedroom apartment-style suites and other prizes beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday on the Grasse River.
  • Plattsburgh-based hypnotist Michael Blaine will be performing at 5 p.m.
  • The Kangaroos men’s soccer team will take on the SUNY Potsdam Bears at 7 p.m. at the turf field. The athletic department is holding a “pack the stands event” with competitions and prizes for students attending the game.
  • The much-acclaimed North Country band Double Axel will be performing classic rock sets at 3:30 and 6 p.m. and a College DJ will be performing at 4:30 and 7 p.m.

All of the above events are free and open to the public, but specifically designed for college students. Events, unless otherwise noted, will be held in the field behind Smith Hall near the volleyball court and adjacent to the Grasse River. The rain location for all events except for the fireworks and soccer match is in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center.

SUNY Canton Celebrating Fall Festival and Family Weekend

Fall FestivalCANTON – Two activities to support outstanding community organizations will be held in conjunction with SUNY Canton’s annual Fall Festival and Family Weekend.

A 12-hour relay to benefit the Canton Fire Department will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Canton Village Park and a Motorcycle run to benefit the St. Lawrence County chapter of Habitat for Humanity will depart at 11 a.m. from parking lot six on campus.

The two fundraisers come in addition to the college’s action-packed weekend line-up of activities. Some of the events are as follows:

  • The Verizon USA Luge Slider Search will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Parking lot six on the campus. This event requires preregistration.
  • The Automotive Technology Club’s Car show begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday on the Roselle Academic Plaza at SUNY Canton.
  • The college’s annual craft show and fair will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center Intramural Gymnasium.
  • The SUNY Canton Ropes Course will be open 10 a.m. adjacent to the footbridge behind SUNY Canton.

The drivers of SUNY Canton Racing will be on hand during the day for an autograph and photo session and the SUNY Canton Steel Bridge Team will be performing a demonstration with their nationally-recognized steel bridge. There will also be many other student and academic displays and demonstrations throughout the day.

Adding to the weekend, the SUNY Canton Kangaroos soccer teams will play rival Paul Smith’s College on Saturday. The men’s game starts at 1 p.m. and the women will take the turf at 3 p.m. on the Edson A. Martin Athletic fields.

SUNY Canton offers a wide variety of career-driven bachelor’s, associate, and certificate programs, as well as three master’s degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica. Most of SUNY Canton’s new four-year programs are designed so students can take them on-campus, online, or both. SUNY Canton OnLine features more than 85 courses online each semester. The college’s athletic teams have joined the NAIA’s Sunrise Conference, enabling students to compete in their respective sports for four years.
