Robots and fuel cells powered SUNY Canton student research for a recent American Physical Society (APS) and the American Association of Physics Teachers competition at the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Tonya Buddie, an Engineering Science student from Cato, Heidi Tessmer, a Liberal Arts and Sciences: General Studies student from Gouverneur and Trey Theobald, an Engineering Science student from Victor, took second place for their poster presentation about fuel cell experimentation.

“The competition gave our students a wonderful opportunity to participate in professional activities and set their sights on their post-graduate careers,” said David G. Wells, Dean of the Canino School of Engineering Technology.

Additionally, Andrew Buyck a Mechanical Engineering Technology student from Baldwinsville, Nathan McDonald an Engineering Science student from Colton, Jason Bellinger, an Engineering Technology student from Canton, Mbaye Diop, a Liberal Arts and Sciences: General Studies student from New York City, and Theobald presented their research about robot design at the conference.

In October, students and faculty will be attending another APS conference with the New York State Astronomical Society about planets at Skidmore College, in Saratoga Springs.
