Community Health Organizations to Promote Wellness at SUNY Canton April 15

SUNY CantonThe SUNY Canton Davis Health Center has invited more than 25 area agencies to help promote a healthy lifestyle for the college and community.

Each agency will be providing health screenings or education at the college’s Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, in Dana Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

There will be information about disaster preparedness, lung cancer screenings, weight loss, grief support, blood pressure and diabetes testing, tobacco cessation, caring for Alzheimer’s disease patients, health care plans and more. There will also be a distracted driving simulator that will allow participants to see how easily it is to get in an accident when driving while distracted.

Representatives from the following organizations will be in attendance:

  • Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center
  • Community Health Center of the North Country
  • Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley

  • Seaway Valley Prevention Council
  • Lawrence County Traffic Safety Stop
  • SUNY Employee Assistance Program
  • United Healthcare Community Plan
  • Watertown Veteran Center

Community Agencies Visit Campus to Promote Wellness, March 30

The SUNY Canton Davis Health Center has invited more than 25 area agencies to help promote a healthy lifestyle for the College and community.

Each agency will be providing free health screenings or education at the College’s Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center’s Intramural gym. The event is free and open to the public.

Among the services offered at the Health Fair will be:

  • Blood pressure testing
  • Glucose testing and diabetes education
  • Cholesterol testing
  • Bone density screenings
  • Pulmonary Function testing
  • Tobacco cessation services
  • Weight loss support
  • Overall health screenings

There will also be a special presentation on using guided imagery to relax at 1 p.m. in the Campus Center’s Woodcock Conference Suite room 218 led by Kathy Montan, a body-centered expressive therapist.

Among the agencies represented at the fair will be representatives from the Renewal House, Alzheimer’s Association of Central New York, North Country Children’s Clinic, St. Lawrence County Traffic Safety Stop DWI program, Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, Cornell Cooperative Extension, the Seaway Valley Prevention Council, TOPS, Inc., Rochester Eye and Tissue Bank, AIDS Community Resources, Canton-Potsdam Hospital, St. Lawrence County Tobacco Free Community Partnership, and the SUNY Employee Assistance Program.

Spring Health Fair & Blood Drive this Week

A Health Fair, highlighting 22 campus and community organizations, and a Blood drive are two events advocating health and well-being at SUNY Canton this week.

There will be “a time to give, ” at the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital Blood Drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center room 212. This event is sponsored by the SUNY Canton Davis Health Center and Delta Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Community donors are welcome.

Employees from the SUNY Canton Davis Health Center and the Employee Assistance Program will be sponsoring a Spring Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center room 212. This event is free and open to the public.

The Health Fair will have a number of displays and presentations by local health agencies and organizations.

There will also be presentations by on-campus groups including the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The honor society will be collecting birthday cards for a Leukemia patient attempting to break the world record on most cards received.
