SUNY Canton Legal Studies and Finance Degrees Named Among Most Affordable in the Nation

Wednesday, July 30th, 2014

SUNY Canton’s four-year bachelor’s degrees in Finance and Legal Studies are among the most economical online programs in the U.S, according to SR Education Group, an organization that advocates for accessible higher education.

The group surveyed and ranked schools based on affordability. To be considered for inclusion, colleges are required to offer programs that are entirely online.

Most Affordable Law Degrees“We completed extensive research into the cost of attending different online colleges to enable students to find the most affordable online degrees,” said Kimberly Wetter, marketing director for SR Education Group. “With the average price of college skyrocketing, forcing many students to rely on student loans to fund their education, we were impressed with SUNY Canton’s ability to continue to offer affordable online degrees.”

SUNY Canton’s Legal Studies program, which was launched in 2006, was ranked 16th on the list. Students in the program have the opportunity to intern with law firms, courts, public defenders and district attorneys. Program graduates either attend law school or begin their careers working for law offices, government agencies or court facilities.

The four-year bachelor’s degree in Finance, which was ranked 17th, allows students to develop knowledge of banking, financial markets, insurance, and financial planning and forecasting and use this knowledge to start or continue careers in these fields. Seniors in the program can take advantage of internship opportunities to build practical skills and establish industry connections.

“Students in our undergraduate four-year Finance and Legal Studies programs receive a quality and flexible course of study to prepare them for careers in each field,” said Jondavid S. DeLong, dean of the School of Business and Liberal Arts. “The recognized affordability of the programs relative to others like them makes them even more attractive to students and their families.

Last year SR Education Group announced that SUNY Canton’s Bachelor of Science Nursing program was also one of the most economical online programs in the nation. To view the entire list of rankings, visit

SUNY Canton to Expand Relations with American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Bosnia AgreementSUNY Canton is looking to expand relations with the American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina (AUBiH).

SUNY Canton began offering its four-year Financial Services and Information Technology programs to 130 students at AUBiH last fall. This initiative began following a 2006 visit to Canton by Denis Prcic, Chairman of AUBiH.

Prcic recently revisited SUNY Canton to develop new joint degrees and work with the high-tech tools that the college uses to deliver its online classes through SUNY CantonOL.

“Our College of International Banking links well with the SUNY Canton School of Business and Public Service,” Prcic said. “SUNY Canton’s unique and experienced business professors make it possible for our students to advance their education and further adapt to the changing global economies.”

In order to achieve this union, SUNY Canton will continue to meet the highly stringent standards of both the State University of New York and of the governing entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Pauline Graveline. SUNY Canton is the only college working with AUBiH in this capacity.

“We are currently investigating the viability of offering more programs to AUBiH students,” Graveline said. “Incoming Provost Dr. William Trumble and I will be working with Denis (Prcic) on potentially offering the Legal Studies program and courses in Risk Management and Marketing as the next steps in the planned growth of AUBiH and our partnership.”

The SUNY Canton Legal Studies program will help AUBiH establish a program in International Law and business classes will help establish a program in Marketing.

Graveline and other top-ranking college officials are planning to visit Prcic in Bosnia this year. She mentioned that students may attend SUNY Canton in person during the Summerterm 2009 semester, building upon the previous success of summer exchange students from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2007.

SUNY Canton offers a wide variety of career-driven bachelor’s, associate, and certificate programs, as well as three master’s degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica. Most of SUNY Canton’s new four-year programs are designed so students can take them on-campus, online, or both. SUNY Canton OnLine features more than 65 courses online each semester. The college’s athletic teams have joined the NAIA’s Sunrise Conference, enabling students to compete in their respective sports for four years.
