North Country EMS Program Agency Dedicates Conference to a Fallen EMT

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

The SUNY Canton North Country EMS (NCEMS) Program Agency will be honoring fallen EMT and firefighter Mark Davis at their annual Spring Fling conference.

Davis was fatally shot while responding to a medical call on Jan. 31 in Cape Vincent.

“Mark Davis made the ultimate sacrifice while trying to help someone else,” said NCEMS Program Agency Director Ann Smith. “That is why we want our conference to pay tribute to his life.”

The conference is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at Bonnie Castle Resort in Alexandria Bay. A special ceremony for Davis will be held on the conference’s final day, Saturday, April 25.

The NCEMS Program Agency invites first responders, EMTs, emergency nurses, and emergency physicians to spend the weekend with their peers and attend the professional development trainings and workshops.

“This conference’s programs can help emergency medical personnel fulfill New York State requirements,” Smith said. “More importantly, it can help them save more lives.”

Among other topics and presentations, participants will have the chance to tour specialized water rescue units and learn how rescuers work to overcome challenges specific to North Country lakes and waterways.

The conference will also include advanced 12-lead electrocardiogram education, instructor updates, and basic EMS education.
