SUNY Canton Students Celebrate King’s Legacy with Day of Service

For the second year, SUNY Canton students celebrated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a day of community service.

The Student Affairs Division invited more than 50 children from the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club to campus to play basketball, volleyball, kickball and ice skate with students.

“It’s great that SUNY Canton again hosted the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club, said Tom Luckie Jr. “Our kids really love coming over here.”

Other events included a presentation by SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran about King’s role in Albany, Ga., movement and the desegregation of Georgia’s Universities.

The Day of Service was previewed by the Watertown Daily Times and featured by WWNYTV 7 News.

SUNY Canton Hosts First Annual MLK Day of Service

The SUNY Canton division of Student Affairs welcomed members of the Boys & Girls Club of Ogdensburg to campus on Monday to participate in a play day in celebration of Martin Luther King Day.

For 90 minutes the children got to enjoy numerous activities from an open skate to basketball, kickball and knockout. The activities, which took place in the Roos House, were in conjunction with the first annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.

SUNY Canton, along with SUNY campuses across New York State, hosted events as a wonderful opportunity to give back to the campus and the community and to continue Dr. King’s message and legacy of service.
