Law Enforcement Day Brings Nationally Known Criminal Investigation Expert to SUNY Canton

Retired New York State Police Crime Scene Investigator and Court TV expert guest analyst Tom Martin will be the keynote speaker at SUNY Canton’s Law Enforcement Day.

Martin, who has investigated thousands of forensic cases throughout his career, has appeared on the Court TV series “Trace Evidence,” “Forensic Files,” and “On the Case with Paula Zahn.” He has also appeared on the HBO series “Autopsy” and has written several books.

Martin will discuss blood spatter analysis as part of the daylong event that begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center’s Kingston Theater. Martin’s presentation will begin at 1 p.m. Other scheduled speakers and topics are:

  • Stephanie Schuckers, Ph.D., associate professor at Clarkson University, will discuss fingerprint recognition software at 9 a.m.
  • Dr. Robert Stoppacher, medical examiner for Onondaga County, will discuss death investigations at 10 a.m.
  • Dwayne Wisbey, forensic document examiner for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department and adjunct instructor at SUNY Canton, will discuss document analysis at 11 a.m.

“Law Enforcement Day gives our students and community members the chance to hear from seasoned criminal investigation experts,” said Susan E. Buckley, department chair of the SUNY Canton Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement Leadership and Criminal Investigation programs. “The guest presenters will be discussing the most modern tools used to solve crimes.”
