SUNY Canton Professor Stephen F. Ledoux, Ph.D., will discuss the value of behaviorology in helping to solve global climate problems as part of the College’s spring Sustainability Lecture Series.
Ledoux will speak at 6 p.m. March 19 in Nevaldine North, Room 102. This event is free and open to the public.
Recognizing the connection between solving global problems and the 100-year-old natural science of behaviorology, Ledoux emphasizes the necessity of developing functional relationships between behavior and green engineering that expands a students’ knowledge base, while establishing sustainable lifestyles.
“Behaviorology is the natural science of why human behavior happens, a natural science to help build a sustainable society in a timely manner,” he said.
The lecture will reflect some themes in Ledoux’s latest book, which is titled “Running Out of Time — Introducing Behaviorology to Help Solve Global Problems.”
“Natural scientists are working to solve problems like global warming within the limited time frame available before we experience its worst effects,” Ledoux said. “In that process, scientists note that solutions require changes in human behavior, yet they have lacked definitive access to a natural science of behavior. We now have that, which will be increasingly valuable for solving local and global problems.”
The Sustainability Lecture Series was designed to accelerate awareness of environmental, economic and social concerns through presentations and interactive demonstrations. The series will continue with other environmental experts throughout the spring. For additional information, visit http://www.canton.edu/sustainability/lecture.html.
