On June 1, 2009 Nancy L. Zimpher became the Chancellor of SUNY. Zimpher is visiting all 64 SUNY campuses as part of a summer tour to create a SUNY-wide strategic plan.

State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher will be visiting and touring SUNY Canton on Monday, July 27 as part of her summer-long tour of the 64 colleges and universities within the SUNY system.

“We plan on showing her several of the positive initiatives exclusive to our college,” said SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy. “This is a constantly evolving and growing environment, with extraordinary growth in our online and international initiatives, in addition to our facilities construction and renovations.”

The Chancellor will have the opportunity to meet with more than 80 international students and faculty members from the American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lomonosov Moscow State University in Russia, and several Chinese institutions.

Kennedy and the college’s faculty and staff will also be highlighting the most recent progress on the new Convocation, Athletic, and Recreation Center, residence renovations, and the major overhaul of Nevaldine Technology Center.

The Chancellor’s tour of campus will be open to the media beginning at 3 p.m. Monday, July 27, and will include a rooftop view of the campus and a stop at SUNY Canton’s newly renovated, state-of-the-art nursing labs in Wicks Hall. This portion of the visit is specifically designed for media desiring photographs or video footage.

The tour will conclude with a 3:30 question-and-answer session for the media with Kennedy and Zimpher, followed by a reception, in the Newell Veterinary Technology Center.

Media arrangements should be made in advance by contacting SUNY Canton Public Relations at 315-386-7300, or email kie@canton.edu.

SUNY Canton offers a wide variety of career-driven bachelor’s, associate, and certificate programs, as well as three master’s degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica. The College’s athletic teams belong to the NAIA’s Sunrise Conference, enabling students to compete in their respective sports for four years. Construction is now underway for the College’s new Convocation, Athletic, and Recreation Center.
