St. Lawrence County Clerk Featured at Women’s Business Bootcamp

The luncheon will feature a keynote from St. Lawrence County Clerk Patricia Ritchie.

St. Lawrence County Clerk Patricia Ritchie will be the keynote speaker at the Small Business Development Center’s Women’s Business Bootcamp and Resource Expo.

The Women’s Business Bootcamp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 4, in the SUNY Canton Richard W. Miller Campus Center. Ritchie will be addressing the conference during the luncheon and will be discussing how positive leadership can impact businesses of all sizes.

“This event is a valuable resource for north country women in business,” says Dale A. Rice, SBDC Director. “It provides both educational opportunities and extremely valuable networking experiences that have proven value for our area entrepreneurs.”

Other conference presentations include a marketing through social networking section by Jeff Yette of Slic Network Solutions and a commercial financing presentation with Charles Beach of Key Bank One “We will also be hosting a panel of women business owners who will share their best practices and personal experiences as entrepreneurs,” Rice added.

The Women’s Resource Expo portion features area businesses and organizations and showcases their products and services.

The Women’s Business Bootcamp is $45 per person. Registration as a Resource Expo exhibitor is $30 and includes lunch and the keynote lecture. Registration for both the Bootcamp and exhibit in the Expo is $65.

SBDCThe Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host the Women’s Business Boot Camp from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, at SUNY Canton.

“This is the third year that we’ve held a business conference specifically for women business owners and entrepreneurs,” said SBDC Director Dale Rice. “This year we have given the event a new name that reflects all of the hard work and dedication of women business owners.”

The SBDC teamed up with Key Bank to bring the Women’s Business Boot Camp to the area this year. The St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency and the Women’s Business Entrepreneurial Center at ComLinks are cosponsoring the event. “We are pleased that Key Bank and the Key for Women program are helping us bring this valuable training to our local entrepreneurs,” Rice said.

Boot Camp Attendees will attend mini training sessions on business topics including bookkeeping, going green, and protecting digital information. Key Bank staff will be on hand to discuss credit and banking issues. Motivational Speaker Barbara Walker of Cope Consulting Services will be presenting an inspirational keynote address.

The conference will also feature a Resource Expo where area businesses and organizations can showcase their products and services. The Resource Expo will be open from noon to 4 p.m. with special networking sessions scheduled so conference participants can spend exclusive time with Expo vendors.

Cost to attend the Women’s Business Boot Camp is $45 per person. Registration as a Resource Expo exhibitor is $35, which includes lunch and access to the keynote address. Registration for both the Bootcamp and exhibit in the Expo is $70.

SBDC to Host Conference for Women in Entrepreneurship and Business at SUNY Canton

The SUNY Canton Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host its second annual women’s conference, Women in Entrepreneurship and Business, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, in the Richard W. Miller Campus Center Room 212.

“We have planned another great conference and will be adding some new features that we think this year’s attendees will love,” said SBDC Director Dale Rice. Last year’s conference was attended by approximately 40 women from across the north country region.

One addition to the WEB Conference this year is a Resource Expo where area businesses and organizations will showcase their products and services. The Resource Expo will be set up from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Campus Center Intramural Gym, with special networking sessions scheduled so conference participants can spend exclusive time with Expo vendors. The Resource Expo will also be open to the general public free of charge.

The conference will feature Melanie Upson-Rafferty of Cortel Improvement and Cathy Pokines of the U.S. Small Business Administration as the day’s keynote speakers. Upson-Rafferty will discuss how women can establish credibility in the professional world and will include pointers on “power talk,” confidence, and how to present yourself and your ideas. Pokines will speak about the state of women-owned business in the economy.

The conference features a variety of mini-workshops on topics such as online marketing, credit issues, financing and accounting. Participants will also have the opportunity to attend a panel discussion by successful business owners to gain insight into their best practices.
