St. Lawrence County AAUW Awards Two Scholarships

to SUNY Canton Students

Small logo The St. Lawrence County branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) awarded two scholarships to SUNY Canton graduates.

Jennifer Peck, an Accounting major from Gouverneur, and Anna Livingston, a Liberal Arts and Sciences: General Studies major from Lisbon received financial awards to continue their education.

"We are very proud of Anna and Jennifer," said Carli C. Schiffner, Executive Assistant to the President and AAUW member. "They have not only excelled at a two-year degree, but have also chosen to continue for their four-year education."

This Fall, Peck will continue at SUNY Canton with the School of Business and Public Service, and Livingston will continue her studies at SUNY Potsdam in the Education Department.

The scholarships were based on three criteria: grade point average, a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, and an essay discussing a commitment to community service and future goals. The applicants also had to be enrolled in a four-year degree program for the fall semester at an accredited institution in order to apply.

Currently, the St. Lawrence County Branch of the AAUW has 60 members from diverse educational and employment backgrounds who work together to fulfill the mission of the American Association of University Women: to promote equity for women, education and self-development over the life span, and positive societal change.

The next AAUW meeting will be held on June 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Thatcher Hall at SUNY Potsdam. If interested in attending or becoming a member, please contact the Membership Vice President, Anne Malone, at (315) 265-0541 or by email at maloner@potsdam.edu.

SUNY Canton is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year and is in the midst of its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. In addition to 26 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers 10 four-year degrees with plans to announce several other new programs during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers three unique master's degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica. The College has recently embarked upon articulation agreements with Lomonosov Moscow State University and Osaka College of Foreign Languages and International Business in Japan, allowing international scholars the ability to obtain a SUNY Canton degree locally or abroad.
