New Officers Heralded During Law Enforcement Academy
Commencement at SUNY Canton
SUNY Canton lauded the graduates of the eleventh class of the David Sullivan St. Lawrence County Law Enforcement Academy.
"I ask each newly trained officer to take the education and training that you have received back to your communities and protect and serve your communities with honor and integrity," said Academy Director Steven L. Livernois to the graduates.
Among the officers honored at the 2006 Academy Commencement Ceremony were:
- Edward K. Amelio of Watertown was sworn in as an officer of the Alexandria Bay Police Department. The son of Edward J. and Kathleen B. Amelio, he is a 2003 graduate of Jefferson Community College.
- Michael P. Ames of Canton was sworn in as an officer with the Potsdam Police Department. The son of Michael H. and Molly B. Ames, he is a 2006 graduate of SUNY Canton.
- Dillon M. Bogart of Alexandria Bay was sworn in as an officer with the Alexandria Bay Police Department. He is the son of Michael D. and Suzanne M. Bogart
- Matthew W. Chase of Massena completed his pre-employment police basic training. He is the son of Warren R. and Linda L. Chase.
- Robert C. Dugan of Syracuse was sworn in as a University Police Officer for SUNY-ESF. The son of Theresa E. and Robert E. Dugan Jr., he is a 2003 graduate of SUNY-ESF.
- Kyle E. Fink of Bergen was sworn in as an officer of the Potsdam Police Department. The son of Gary C. and Kathleen C. Fink, he is a 2003 graduate and 2005 Outstanding Graduate of SUNY Canton who received highest honors, and the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.
- Aaron G. House of Philadelphia was sworn in as an officer of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. The son of Gail I. House, he is a 1998 graduate of Jefferson Community College and a 2003 graduate of Full Sail Real World Education.
- Angela M. Lashomb of Parishville was sworn in as an officer of the Norfolk Police Department. The daughter of Diana M. and Gary Palmer, she is a 2003 graduate of Polk Community College.
- Frederick E. March II of Watertown was sworn in as an officer of the Watertown Police Department. The son of Michael J. and Wenda T. March, he is a 2000 graduate of Jefferson Community College and a 2002 graduate of SUNY Brockport.
- Scott M. McIntyre of Carthage was sworn in as an officer of the Watertown Police Department. The son of Terry R. and Chris J. McIntyre, he is a 1992 graduate of Jefferson Community College and recipient of the Vincent Sparacino Memorial Scholarship. Scott is continuing family tradition by becoming a police officer. Both his father and grandfather are former police officers.
- Brennan L. Ordway of Gouverneur was sworn in as an officer of the Antwerp Police Department. The son of Robert A. and Robin S. Ordway, he is a 2003 graduate of SUNY Canton. "I want to thank Mayor Bert Corey and senior officer Jarret LeClair for giving me the opportunity to work for the Antwerp Police Department," Ordway said.
- Jonathan M. Pitts of Alexandria Bay was sworn in as an officer of the Alexandria Bay Police Department. He is the son of Joe and Jackie Pitts.
- Danielle M. Pryce of Wellesley Island was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff for Jefferson County. The daughter of Roderick J. Pryce and Christine M. Rovito, she is a graduate of Jefferson Community College and SUNY Potsdam.
- Krystal G. Rice of Massena was sworn in as an officer of the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department. The daughter of Mark W. and Rachael S. Travis, she is a 2003 and 2005 graduate of SUNY Canton.
- Ron E. Sokolowski of Rooseveltown was sworn in as a University Police officer with SUNY Potsdam. He is a 1984 graduate of Mater Dei College and a 1986 graduate of SUNY Potsdam.
- James W. Stone II of Canton was sworn in as an officer of the Norfolk Police Department. The son of James and Holly Stone, he is a 2005 graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College.
- Devin K. Thomas of Potsdam was sworn in as an officer of the Norfolk Police Department. The son of Gerald M. and Jill M. Thomas, he is a 2003 graduate of SUNY Canton.
- Samantha L. Trinque of Malone was sworn in as an officer of the Norwood Police Department. She is the daughter of Charlie R. Trinque and Lisa A. Brown.
- Holly M. Trottier of Cape Vincent was sworn in as an officer of the Watertown Police Department. The daughter of Ronald J. and Antoinette M. Trottier, she is a 1997 graduate of SUNY Cortland.
- Victoria A. Winans of Afton was sworn in as an officer of the Binghamton State University Police. The daughter of Steven Thomas and Lorraine R. Kieisler, she is a 2000 graduate of Broome Community College.
- Eric Zielinski of Plattsburgh was sworn in as an officer with the SUNY Plattsburgh University Police Department. The son of Peter and Elyse Zielinski, he is a Clinton Community College Graduate. Zielinski is also a captain of the South Plattsburgh Fire Department and previously worked for the Clinton County Sheriff's Department.
SUNY Canton is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year and is in the midst of its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. In addition to 23 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers 10 four-year degrees with plans to announce several other new programs during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers three unique master's degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica. The College has recently embarked upon articulation agreements with Lomonosov Moscow State University and Osaka College of Foreign Languages and International Business in Japan, allowing international scholars the ability to obtain a SUNY Canton degree locally or abroad.
