SUNY Canton Now Offering Bachelor's Degree Program
at Fulton-Montgomery Community College
SUNY Canton and Fulton-Montgomery Community College (FMCC) officials announced a new partnership that will provide four-year degree opportunities to graduating two year students at FMCC.
An official announcement was made at FMCC's fall open house this past weekend. SUNY Canton Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Jeremy Brown and FMCC President Dustin Swanger made the partnership official with the signing of a memorandum of agreement later that day.
"As SUNY Canton continues to add bachelor's degree programs on its own campus, we will also continue to expand the locations where those programs are available," said Brown. "The quality of FMCC's associate degree programs is very strong, and the institution prides itself on close, personal service to its students. It's the same at SUNY Canton."
With this agreement, FMCC students will be able to enroll in SUNY Canton's signature Bachelor of Business Administration in Technology Management program while staying at the FMCC campus.
"Many residents of our service area are place-bound and are unable to take advantage of traditional programs at distant campuses," Swanger said. "Our new partnership with SUNY Canton changes that by blending live video and online instruction with traditional on-campus instruction and service."
This agreement is designed for students who graduate from FMCC's Business Administration and General Studies associate degree programs. Three courses will be offered during the Spring 2007 Semester and the entire program will be implemented next September. Additional SUNY Canton bachelor's degree programs are expected to be announced in the coming months.
SUNY Canton has similar partnerships in other states and abroad. "This is our first partnership of this kind in New York State, but we have similar arrangements in New Mexico, Wyoming, Massachusetts, and in Moscow, Russia" Brown said.
The three courses that will be piloted this spring are Managerial Economics, Professional Ethics and Public Budgeting. Starting next spring, students who apply to FMCC as freshman will be able to apply simultaneously for early admission into a SUNY Canton bachelor's degree program.
SUNY Canton is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year and is in the midst of its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. In addition to 22 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers 12 four-year degrees with plans to announce several other new programs during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers three unique master's degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica.
