SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy and Provost Jeremy D. Brown will be joining faculty and staff members to welcome approximately 800 first-year students to SUNY Canton at the college's Opening Convocation on August 28.
"The celebration of Opening Convocation helps us welcome each of our incoming students into the SUNY Canton family," said SUNY Canton Provost Jeremy D. Brown. "The start of the academic year is an exciting time, especially for those students that are experiencing it for the first time. It is exhilarating to us all to welcome the next generation of scholars into our family and thus celebrate the birth of a lifelong connection between the students and SUNY Canton.."
Opening Convocation Ceremonies begin at 11:30 a.m. on August 28 in Dana Athletic Center's Alumni Gymnasium. In addition to incoming freshmen, the college also invites parents, friends, and community members to attend.
At the conclusion of the ceremonies, there will be a campus-wide picnic, allowing students, parents, faculty, staff, and guests the chance to meet. The picnic is scheduled from Noon to 2 p.m. on the Roselle Academic Plaza.
The Opening Convocation is designed as an opportunity to convey to students the significance of their educational endeavor and the commitment of the university to support them in their achievement of this goal, both inside and outside the classroom.
SUNY Canton is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year and is in the midst of its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. In addition to 23 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers 12 four-year degrees with plans to announce several other new programs during the upcoming academic year. SUNY Canton also offers three unique master's degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica.
