SUNY Canton Counseling Center Depression Screening Oct. 5
SUNY Canton Counseling Center will be offering a depression lecture and screening at 7 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 5 in rooms 212 and 214 of the Richard W. Miller Campus Center.
Students and the North County community are invited to participate in this free event.
"One of the best ways to combat depression is to have support structures in place,"said Debora Camp, SUNY Canton Director of Counseling. "We all work hard everyday, but we need to remember to play everyday too. It is important to focus on the things that give us joy and relieve tension."
Each person will have the chance to fill out a depression questionnaire, which can help identify moods, anxiety levels, and post traumatic stress. Camp will also make a presentation about depression and the ways to manage it.
Camp said that some signs of depression include feelings of worthlessness, lack of enthusiasm, and difficulty concentrating. "Depression can be caused by a variety of factors such as work overload, stress and home sickness," said Camp. "It can lead to a decrease in academic or work performance."
Camp often uses play therapy and humor to counsel individuals who are troubled with depression or other personal problems. She also has a wide variety of free resources for distribution. Camp also hosts a variety of fun stress relief activities during finals week. For more information, please contact the Counseling Center at 315-386-7122 or visit www.canton.edu/counseling.
