"Engineers Can Do Anything!" at SUNY Canton, Oct. 3

Small logo  Biomedical engineer, and thrill-seeking author Celeste Bain will be holding a seminar entitled "Engineers Can do Anything!" at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3 in SUNY Canton's Kingston Theater.

Bain will be talking to students and parents about the challenges and benefits of obtaining an engineering degree. This event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is suggested. Please contact the SUNY Canton Office of admissions to register at 315-386-7123. High school classes are welcome.

"When I was in high school, my dream was to be a Disney engineer." Bain said in a previously prepared statement. "But at that time, before the Internet was everywhere, I had no idea how to do that. I also wanted to work with people."

Not knowing where else to start, Bain chose Electronic Engineering Technology, a course similar to those offered at SUNY Canton, but kept dreaming of designing sets for Disney. After five years, Bain went back to school for her Biomedical Engineering degree and began authoring her publications.

Bain is one of the 50 Engineers you should meet, according to the National Engineers Week, an organization dedicated to raising public awareness of engineers' positive contributions to the quality of life. She is the Director of the Engineering Education Service Center and author of Is There an Engineer Inside You: A Comprehensive Guide to Career Decisions in Engineering, The Fantastical Engineer: A Thrillseeker's Guide to Careers in Theme Park Engineering, High Tech Hot Shots: Careers in Sports Engineering, and other publications. She is also the recipient of the 2004 American Society for Engineering Education Award for the Promotion of Engineering Education and Careers.

Bain has also worked at Louisiana Tech on a project to help Kindergarten through grade twelve science and physics teachers inspire students to pursue careers in engineering and science by holding workshops on topics such as roller coaster physics.
