"If we were to research textbook examples of effective leadership, we would find the attributes that Pauline exhibits every day," noted SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy. "She's an excellent time manager, understanding, and has an open door policy for all who need her expertise and guidance."

The Excellence in College Service Award is given annually to a SUNY Canton non-teaching academic employee. Graveline is responsible for the organization, direction, and supervision of the school of Liberal Studies and Support Services' instructional and academic programs. She also helps design and implement support programs for students who need extra help achieving their full potential.

"As Dean, she has worked to strengthen the faculty and provide support for four-year programs," said Professor of Humanities Nadine Jennings. "The changing college has resulted in a significant addition to her responsibilities. Yet, she remains available to students and colleagues regardless of her busy schedule."

She started her career at SUNY Canton in 1980 as a Math Instructor. She has been Associate Dean of the School of Student Support Services and Interim Dean for the School of Business and Public Service. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and Master's of Mathematics Education degree in 1972, and another Master's of Instructional Technology and Media Management in 1989 from SUNY Potsdam.

"It has been exciting to be a part of all the changes at the college, especially in the last few years," said Graveline. "I've been able to contribute as much as I have because of the spectacular support staff and faculty that I work with."

In addition to her duties as Dean, Graveline oversees the SUNY Canton Education Center in Massena's St. Lawrence Centre Mall. She was instrumental in the working with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education to ensure that the SUNY Canton Education Center meets a series of high characteristics of excellence.

She has also played an important role in the development of the college's online courses, and is a member of the Task Force for Online Learning. She is also in charge of the college's international initiatives, including the articulation agreements with Lomonosov Moscow State University and Osaka College of Foreign Languages and International Business in Japan. She, along with SUNY Canton Provost Dr. Jeremy D. Brown, and Molly M. Mott, Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Online Learning recently traveled to China and Japan to develop new opportunities for international students.

Originally from Ogdensburg, Graveline resides in Canton with her partner Fred Monaco, who is a SUNY Canton Professor Emeritus of Mathematics. She has one daughter, Sara Pellett, who is currently living in Rocky Mountain N.C.

SUNY Canton is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year and is in the midst of its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. In addition to 26 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers 10 four-year degrees with plans to announce several other new programs during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers three unique master's degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica. The college has recently embarked upon articulation agreements with Lomonosov Moscow State University and Osaka College of Foreign Languages and International Business in Japan, allowing international scholars the ability to obtain a SUNY Canton degree locally or abroad.
