SUNY Canton Dean Named

Provost in Northern Virginia

Jonathan Gueverra

Small logo SUNY Canton School of Business and Public Service Dean Dr. Jonathan Gueverra has been selected as Provost for Northern Virginia Community College's Alexandria Campus. Gueverra will complete this semester at SUNY Canton before assuming his new duties in January 2007.

"Many colleges have recognized SUNY Canton's tremendous success," said President Joseph L. Kennedy. "As a result, it's no surprise that they are also identifying the outstanding individuals who are the driving forces behind our accomplishments. While we regret that a wonderful colleague and friend like Jonathan will be moving on, we are certainly happy for him and his family. Our college, especially our students, will continue to benefit from Jonathan's hard work long after he departs for Virginia."

Located close to the nation's capital, Northern Virginia Community College is Virginia's largest institution of higher education and one of America's largest community colleges. The Alexandria Campus is one of six campuses at Northern Virginia Community College that annually serves approximately 16,000 students in credit programs and approximately 2,500 students in non-credit programs. The Alexandria Campus has approximately 170 full-time, nearly 300 part-time teaching faculty, and approximately 130 staff.

"It's been a joy to work with such bright and willing people," said Gueverra "The changes that have taken place here at SUNY Canton have been of such magnitude that it seems as if we've made five years of progress in two years."

Gueverra began his career at SUNY Canton in August, 2004. During that time, the School of Business and Public Service has grown substantially and has added Technology Management, Legal Studies, Law Enforcement Leadership and Management, and Emergency and Disaster Preparedness bachelor degrees.

SUNY Canton is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year and is in the midst of its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. In addition to 22 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers 12 four-year degrees with plans to announce several other new programs during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers three unique master's degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica.
