Helicopter Patient Transport Training Monday at SUNY Canton
Two military helicopters are scheduled to land at SUNY Canton to help emergency personnel hone their patient air transportation skills on Monday, Aug. 21.
The St. Lawrence County Office of Emergency Services and SUNY Canton's Emergency Management Training Center of Northern New York (EMTCNNY) will be presenting a Military Assistance to Safety and Traffic (MAST) training program beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, in SUNY Canton's Kingston Theater. Following a brief oral presentation, military personnel from Fort Drum will be demonstrating proper patient loading and unloading techniques among other helicopter response and safety tactics for emergency responders.
According to EMTCNNY Director Martin J. Hassett, MAST Helicopters are responsible for transporting a substantial number of emergency patients in St. Lawrence, Lewis, and Jefferson counties. "Emergency responders can expect to learn when and how to ask for a helicopter, what to expect, and safety procedures necessary for a safe and expedient transport," Hassett said.
This training is designed for Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians, and Law Enforcement Officers, but is also free and open to the public. For more information, contact Hassett at 379-3929 or e-mail hassettm@canton.edu.
