Into Honor Society

SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy recently welcomed 16 new inductees to Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society.
"These students deserve high recognition for their outstanding academic achievement at SUNY Canton," said Kennedy. "Now that they have proven that they can excel academically, I challenge them to expand their intellectual souls and continue to develop a joy of learning."
Chi Alpha Epsilon was formed in 1990 to recognize the academic achievements of students admitted to colleges and universities through non-traditional criteria. Its purpose is to promote continued high academic standards, foster increased communication among its members, and honor the academic excellence of those students admitted to the college through developmental program pathways.
Students inducted into SUNY Canton's chapter of Chi Alpha Epsilon include:
- Judith Ball, a Health Services Management major from Lisbon. Ball is a 1984 graduate of Tri-Valley Central High School.
- Matthew Bibbens, an Automotive Technology major from Weedsport. Bibbens is a 2004 graduate of Weedsport Junior-Senior High School.
- Katie Cloutier, a Nursing major from Massena. Cloutier is a 1997 graduate of Massena Central High School.
- Samantha Derrick, a Veterinary Science Technology major from Brooklyn. Derrick is a 2004 graduate of the Boys and Girls High School.
- Nicole Falardeau, a Nursing Major from Ogdensburg. Falardeau is a 1996 graduate of Heuvelton Central School.
- Crystal Fields, an Occupational Therapy Assistant major from Massena. Fields is a 1999 graduate of Massena Central High School.
- Maria George, an Early Childhood major from Lackawanna. George is a 2004 graduate of Lackawanna Senior High School.
- Amanda Martin, a Nursing major from Brasher Falls. Martin is a 1987 graduate of Massena Central High School.
- Danny McDermott, a Health Science Career Studies major from Massena.
- Kyle Moulton, a Criminal Justice major from Winthrop. Moulton completed his home-school education in 2003.
- Kabba Roberts, a Nursing major from Brooklyn. Roberts is a 2004 graduate of Clara Barton High School.
- Wendy Ryan, a Nursing major from Norfolk. Ryan is a 1984 graduate of Norwood-Norfolk Junior-Senior High School.
- Julie Stack, a Criminal Justice major from Batavia. Stack is a 2004 graduate of Batavia High School.
- Daniel Washburn, a Mortuary Science major from Morristown. Washburn is a 1972 graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy.
- Jessica Wilson, a Nursing major from Chase Mills. Wilson is a 2004 graduate of Madrid-Waddington Central School.
Past inductees who were honored for continuing academic achievement of 3.50 or higher include:
- Jennifer Peck, an Accounting major from Gouverneur. Peck is a 1990 graduate of Gouverneur Junior-Senior High School.
- DeEtta Saunders, an Accounting major from Norfolk.
- Jack Durham, a Business Administration major from Potsdam. Durham is a 1994 graduate of Potsdam Senior High School.
- Moriah Schoettlin, a Technology Management: Financial Services major from Potsdam. Schoettlin is a 2003 graduate of Potsdam Senior High School.
- Allison Sharpe, a Physical Therapist Assistant major of Massena. Sharpe is a 1992 graduate of Massena Central High School.
- Kimberly Taylor, an Office Technology major from Madrid. Taylor is a 1982 graduate of Lisbon Central School.
- Rebecca Palmer, a Criminal Justice major from Gouverneur.
- Todd Truscott, a Nursing Major from Potsdam. Truscott is 1983 graduate of Delaware Academy and Central School.
The honorary inductee for the Fall 2005 semester induction was Donna Matoes of Canton. Matoes is the Academic Support Services Administrative Assistant and is known for helping many of the past and current honor society members. She joins past honorary inductees including Kennedy, Pauline Graveline, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Support Services, and Mark Miller, Director of the Educational Opportunity Program at SUNY Canton.
SUNY Canton will be marking its 100-year anniversary next year and has already begun celebrating with its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. The college is transitioning from a two-year institution to a four-year college. In addition to 25 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers eight four-year degrees with plans to double that number during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers a Masters of Business Administration in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica.
