SUNY Canton will recognize one of the most dedicated and loyal volunteers in the history of the college with an Honorary Alumna Award. Ogdensburg native Blanche K. Woodcock will receive the award during SUNY Canton's 98th Commencement Ceremony held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20, in Alumni Gymnasium at Dana Athletic Center.
Woodcock has played an integral role in involving alumni and businesses in the development and fundraising efforts of the college's Advancement Division. She was involved with SUNY Canton's first comprehensive fundraising campaign "Building on the Tradition" and is currently the co-chairperson of the college's Centennial Campaign along with her husband Ronald L. Woodcock '59. To date, the Centennial Campaign has raised nearly $8 million.
The Woodcocks recently hosted the largest alumni gathering outside of New York State in the history of the college at the beautiful West Bay Club in Estero, Florida. Blanche and Ron are also co-founders of the Woodcock Family Scholarship, established in 1990 in memory of their son, Mark R. Woodcock, who also attended SUNY Canton. Woodcock Family Scholarships are awarded annually to four SUNY Canton students.
"Blanche possesses all of the attributes we strive to instill in our students and graduates," noted SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy. "Her devotion and tireless work on our behalf have dramatically impacted the lives of our students."
SUNY Canton is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year and is in the midst of its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. In addition to 25 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers 10 four-year degrees with plans to announce several other new programs during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers three unique master's degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica. The College has recently embarked upon articulation agreements with Lomonosov Moscow State University and Osaka College of Foreign Languages and International Business in Japan, allowing international scholars the ability to obtain a SUNY Canton degree locally or abroad.
