Super-Sized SUNY Canton and
Department of Labor Job Fair, Oct. 17
The Fifth Annual SUNY Canton Job Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, in the intramural gym at the Richard W. Miller Campus Center.
More than 45 regional employers are scheduled to attend the Job Fair, which is coordinated by the SUNY Canton Office of Career Services and cosponsored by the New York State Department of Labor and the Canton College Foundation. This event is free and open to the public.
"The SUNY Canton Job Fair offers tremendous opportunities for both employers and job seekers," said State Labor Commissioner Linda Angello. "It is the most efficient way to bring together businesses that need to recruit workers and people who are looking for a job. Representatives from a diverse group of employers will be looking for candidates to fill positions in healthcare, high-tech, law enforcement, banking, general labor and more. It is also an opportunity for area college students to apply for internships that will enable them to explore future careers."
Department of Labor representatives will be on-hand to offer support for job seekers.
Teresa L. Clemmo, of the SUNY Canton Office of Career Services, said the number of employers at the Job Fair has exceeded the gym’s capacity, which presents tremendous employment opportunities. "Some employers have expressed even more interest in SUNY Canton graduates because of the newest four-year degree programs that the College is offering," Clemmo said. "We are adding additional space to accommodate these employers and more."
Clemmo noted in years past, members of the faculty and staff have attended the Job Fair to discuss current practices and techniques with the business and industry officials. This interaction helps ensure that the College’s practices blend with today and tomorrow’s high-growth and high-demand workplaces.
Students looking for internships as part of their curriculums are also encouraged to interact with the employers, to see if there are opportunities for on-the-job education.
Students from some of the College's clubs and organizations will be on location to assist employers and prospective job seekers. At the 2004 Job Fair, a number of the club members and student assistants came prepared with their own resumes.
