SUNY Canton Collaborates
with Massasoit Community College
for Academic Offerings
SUNY Canton and Massasoit Community College in Massachusetts have embarked upon an agreement that will allow students from the community college to obtain two- or four-year SUNY Canton degrees.
SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy and Provost Jeremy D. Brown discussed the prospects of the interstate collaboration with Massasoit Community College President Charles Wall and other college administrators during their visit to the North County on Thursday.
"Our articulations with other colleges are offering expanding educational resources to students outside of our geographic region," noted Kennedy. "The college leaders from Massasoit Community College have provided a perfect vehicle to offer our signature programs to an ever-broadening range of students."
Brown added: "We've set up the framework to create a stronger relationship between the two colleges. Since we are able to offer a degree program in Russia, we should easily be able to do the same in Massachusetts. It will be exciting for us to have a class comprising students from different parts of the United States and the world. We have made tremendous progress in marketing Canton as a center of educational excellence."
The college administrators agreed to explore linking SUNY Canton's Alternative and Renewable Energy Applications, Facilities Operation, Veterinary Science Technology, and Emergency and Disaster Management programs with programs offered at Massasoit Community College.
"Through this agreement, we have increased the opportunities for our students to pursue baccalaureate degrees and other specialty programs," said Wall. "I am impressed with programmatic offerings of SUNY Canton and the way they are delivered."
Massasoit Community College spans two campuses in Brockton and Canton, Mass. almost 7000 students. Wall and Massasoit administrators including Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management Dr. Carl Kowalski, Vice President of Faculty and Instruction Barbara Finkelstein, and Vice President for the Canton (Mass.) Campus and Dean of Applied Technology Brian O'Leary had the chance to tour the SUNY Canton Campus and utilize the college's distance learning technologies.
SUNY Canton is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year and is in the midst of its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. In addition to 23 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers 10 four-year degrees with plans to announce several new programs during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers three unique master's degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica. The College has recently embarked upon articulation agreements with Lomonosov Moscow State University in Russia, and Osaka College of Foreign Languages and International Business in Japan, allowing international scholars the ability to obtain a SUNY Canton degree locally or abroad.
