Mitten Tree Grows Warming Gifts

MITTEN TREE— Pictured are (l to r) Early Childhood Club members Tiffany Dailey of Chase Mills, Cassandra Williams of Croghan, Felia Olave of the Bronx, and Stacy Dailey of Chase Mills with the Mitten Tree Display.
The fruits of the SUNY Canton Early Childhood Club's mitten tree will warm hearts and hands this holiday season.
"The Mitten Tree was inspired by a book of the same title, by Candace Christiansen and Elaine Greenstein" said Early Childhood Program Director Maureen P. Maiocco. "In the book, a woman knits mittens and anonymously gives them to children who need them."
Members of the Early Childhood Club received about 200 donations consisting of mittens, hats, and scarves to decorate their tree. They will now be giving all of the warm apparel to children at Head Start Programs in St. Lawrence County.
SUNY Canton is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year and is in the midst of its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. In addition to 22 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers 12 four-year degrees with plans to announce several other new programs during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers three unique master's degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica.
