SUNY Canton and Moscow State Sign First Agreement

SUNY Canton and Lomonosov Moscow State University officials recently completed the first formal signing of the agreement linking the two schools in offering a dual-degree program.
Among the presentations and topics of discussion during the signing were the "nuts and bolts" of the technology that will make this articulation possible, according to Canton Institute Director Ronald Meshurel. "There were many final details that needed to be agreed upon, so that both institutions and cultures understood the academic articulation," said Meshurel.
The annual agreements are designed to review the articulation's goals, mission, and successes. "This is the first year of our annual agreement signing," said Meshurel. "Lomonosov Moscow State is equivalent to the top Ivy league schools in the United States, with more than 45,000 students. Other Moscow State departments have expressed interest in partnering with us for other programs."
One year ago, SUNY Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff Elizabeth D. Capaldi, Canton Institute Director Ronald Meshurel, and School of Liberal Studies and Support Services Dean Pauline Graveline visited Moscow to begin an agreement that allows Moscow State students to simultaneously earn baccalaureate degrees in Financial Services from SUNY Canton and Mathematics and Cybernetics from Moscow State University.
Moscow State students will access courses taught in SUNY Canton's Technology Management: Financial Services baccalaureate degree program via the Internet. The first two years of their study will be courses taught at Moscow State, and most of the second two years of their studies will be comprised of online classes from SUNY Canton. Twenty Students at Moscow State are slated to begin their dual-degree studies in the Fall 2006 semester.
Moscow State University Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics Dean Dr. Evgeny Moiseev, Vice Dean for International Relations Dr. Alexander Lukshin, and Professor Dr. Andrey Shobukhov traveled from Moscow for the agreement signing and to finalize the process with Meshurel, SUNY Canton Provost Dr. Jeremy D. Brown, School of Business and Public Service Dean Dr. Jonathan Gueverra, and other officials. Dr. John Ryder, Director of the SUNY Office of International Programs and Center on Russia and the United States, was also on hand to participate in the discussions that will link the two universities.
SUNY Canton will be marking its 100-year anniversary next year and has already begun celebrating with its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. The College is transitioning from a two-year institution to a four-year College. In addition to 25 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers eight four-year degrees with plans to double that number during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers a Masters of Business Administration in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica.
