SUNY Canton "Muggings" Honor Faculty and Staff

Kennedy & Brown

Small logo  Very few good deeds go unrewarded at SUNY Canton.

SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy thanks faculty and staff for their hard work by presenting them with a gold-embossed SUNY Canton coffee mug filled with goodies. These surprise visits are known as "muggings" and have been given to those who have completed tasks far above expectation.

Some of the recent muggings at SUNY Canton include: SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy mugged SUNY Canton Provost Dr. Jeremy D. Brown, rewarding him for his hard work, which lead to the successful conclusion of two major projects. During the past 18 months, under Brown's guidance, SUNY Canton has undergone an inclusive campus wide strategic planning process.

A draft of the strategic planning document is available on the web at www.canton.edu/provost/mission/draft_mrII.doc. In October 2002, a team of professionals representing Middle States Commission on Higher Education visited SUNY Canton to review the college and assure through its continued accreditation, that the institution meets a series of characteristics of excellence. The follow-up report of Fall 2004, prepared by Brown and the Strategic Planning Council was well received by the Commission and signals that SUNY Canton continues to meet the requirements.

Kennedy & Graveline

Graveline for her hard work in assuring acceptance by Middle States Commission on Higher Education of the Massena Education Center as an approved site. Graveline was also mugged for her work in developing SUNY Canton's online learning, and for her involvement with the National Academic Advising Administrator's Institute. SUNY Canton Provost Dr. Jeremy D. Brown recommended Graveline for the mugging.

Kennedy & Burrows

Kennedy mugged Denise Burrows, SUNY Canton Human Resources (HR) Calculations Clerk for working on a project with the SUNY Research Foundation that will allow TRIO students to receive scholarships in 2005. Burrows was nominated by two people for the mugging, SUNY Canton Grants Coordinator Michael Simpson and Director of Human Resources Elizabeth Connolly. Simpson said the end-results of Burrow's work with the Research Foundation project were extremely important. "She is an 'unsung hero' at SUNY Canton," Simpson said. Burrows was also instrumental in helping the HR Department win a recent Gold Star Award for best composite performance in five years, from the New York State Payroll Users Group.
