SUNY Canton Gains International Radio
and Telecommunications Testing Certification
SUNY Canton is now a certified National Association of Radio and Telecommunications Engineers (NARTE) testing center, Canino School of Engineering Technology Dean David Wells announced today.
"Many companies recognize this international certification," Wells said. "This examination will further help our students compete in a global job market. This also fits in well with our new associate in applied science program in Telecommunications Technology held in conjunction with Verizon."
The NARTE organization is a worldwide, non-profit, professional telecommunications association which certifies qualified engineers and technicians in the fields of telecommunications, electromagnetic compatibility and interference, product safety, electrostatic discharge control and wireless systems installation. Telephone, rail, power, pipe line, and other industry corporations mandate or prefer NARTE certification as a pre-requisite to employment.
"As a NARTE testing center, students and working professionals can now take the examinations that will lead to Federal Communications Commission certification," said Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering Technology Stephen Frempong.
Certification examinations will be announced in the future.
SUNY Canton is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year and is in the midst of its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. In addition to 22 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers 12 four-year degrees with plans to announce several other new programs during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers three unique master's degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica.
