"Ruth is one of the students who makes SUNY Canton a better place to work and study," said SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy. "She has maintained her commitment to her honor society and extra-curricular obligations in addition to giving the college unsurpassed scholastic achievement."
Kemm was honored at SUNY Canton's 98th Commencement Ceremony where she graduated with an associate degree in Accounting.
She has been president of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, an Honors Convocation Committee member, and a publicity chair for the College Union Board. Outside of college, she has donated time to the Boy Scouts of America.
Kemm has received Presidential Honors for academics from 2004 to 2006 and made national Dean's List in 2005 and 2006. Recently, Kemm was named to the All-USA and All-New York Academic Teams, through Phi Theta Kappa and USA Today. "Ruth is also the 2006 recipient of the Clarkson Leadership Award," Kennedy pointed out.
She has also been nominated for the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship, and was awarded the Clarkson Leadership Award in 2006.
"Having Ruth in my history courses was a joy," mentioned Carli C. Shiffner, Ph.D., Executive Assistant to the President and Government Relations. "She always brought unique perspectives to the classroom and comported herself with maturity and thoughtfulness."
Ashley Hunter, Vice President of Fellowship for Phi Theta Kappa said, "Ruth is an outstanding leader for the honor society. She has outstanding organizational and people skills."
Anna Livingston, one of Kemm's peers said, "Ruth is outgoing and always friendly. She is very hard working and reliable."
Kemm resides in Potsdam with her two children, Darrell Rimbert and Andrea Kemm. She will be continuing studying at Clarkson University next year.
