SUNY Canton's Opening Convocation to
Welcome Over 800, Aug. 29
More than 800 freshmen will be joining SUNY Canton this year, and
SUNY Canton President Joseph L. Kennedy and Provost Jeremy D. Brown will
join faculty and staff in welcoming the first-year students.
"Since 1906, we have been providing a high-quality educational experience for our students," said Brown. "The students joining SUNY Canton's family this year will experience the same commitment from us in preparing them for a brighter future."
After the bags are all unpacked, and the residence halls rooms are filled with enough belongings to help students survive the year, SUNY Canton freshmen are scheduled to attend the Opening Convocation Ceremonies beginning at 11:30 a.m. on August 29 in Dana Athletic Center's Alumni Gymnasium. At the conclusion of the ceremonies, there will be a campus-wide picnic, allowing students, parents, faculty, staff, and guests the chance to meet. The picnic is scheduled from Noon to 2 p.m. on the Campus Center Plaza and is free to the campus community.
"This is an exciting time for students at SUNY Canton," Brown said. "In the next year, we hope to double the number of bachelor degree programs; enroll our first cohort of students from Moscow State University in Russia; and through our online offerings, attract a greater number of students from outside the North Country."
New this semester, SUNY Canton is offering a new Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a new Master of Business Administration degree. "Thus, by the time this group of entering students graduates, whether it be in a one-year certificate, two-year associate or four-year baccalaureate degree, SUNY Canton will be a far different place," Brown said. "We are proud of our entering class and hope that they will be proud of us."
