Associated Colleges Met with Silda Wall at SUNY Canton
Area college administrators met with Silda Wall, wife of Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, to plan for the continuing economic development and future infrastructure of St. Lawrence County.
The college officials discussed some of SUNY Canton's groundbreaking economic development initiatives. The college will soon be home to an anaerobic digester which will convert waste from a nearby farm into heat and electricity, decreasing the amount of non-renewable energy consumed by the college's facilities. The bidding process to select a vendor to construct the anaerobic digester is currently underway.
Wall, a noted philanthropist, expressed interest in economic development and infrastructure concerns of the North Country. She also emphasized the importance of the colleges' continued commitment to educating the next generation of leaders.
She was joined by St. Lawrence County Democratic Chair June O'Neill. During her visit, she met with St. Lawrence County Democrats at Partridge Run Golf Course. She also toured the Silas Wright House.
Among those in attendance were representatives from the Associated Colleges, including SUNY Canton Vice President for Advancement David M. Gerlach, Executive Assistant to the President Carli Schiffner, St. Lawrence University Vice President for Administrative Operations Tom Coakley, Vice President for University Advancement Michael Archibald, SUNY Potsdam President John Schwaller, Vice President for College Advancement Vicki Templeton-Cornel, and Clarkson University President Anthony Collins.
SUNY Canton is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this year and is in the midst of its highly successful SUNY Canton Centennial Campaign: Cultivating the Minds of Tomorrow. In addition to 23 associate degree programs, SUNY Canton currently offers 12 four-year degrees with plans to announce several other new programs during the next academic year. SUNY Canton also offers three unique master's degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica.
